Even during Rudolf Steiner's lifetime, scientists, editors, artists and writers complained about his cumbersome, complicated sentence structure and the often imprecise or even contradictory statements in both his lectures and books. This irritation with Rudolf Steiner's language continues to this day, and is even becoming more acute. Many people would like to see his knowledge presented in a new and modern way – especially in modern language. Can we do without Rudolf Steiner's language? Isn't it enough to absorb the knowledge, to distil the information contained in the texts, in order to find answers to the needs of the present? Put positively, what can language offer us beyond pure information?
The texts in this edition are attempts by six authors to trace Rudolf Steiner's trains of thought in seven of his fundamental works and to reveal their spiritual score. They are all as different as their authors are different. They thus also bear witness to the fact that it is precisely in the individual appropriation and acceptance of the other that a path to knowledge can be found.
For the time being, the STIL magazine will only be published in German. An English translation of the STIL as an online edition is planned. If you are interested, please contact: sbk@goetheanum.ch.
