"I would prefer to call what I have in mind as anthroposophy Goetheanism," Rudolf Steiner noted in a draft manuscript from 1917. Anthroposophy as Goetheanism does not mean simply repeating Goethe's view of the world, the air and the colours, the minerals, plants, animals and human beings and stopping there. Rather, it is about permeating oneself with Goethe's way of thinking and making it one's own in such a way that its seeds can take root in the mental and spiritual realm and continue to develop. Thus Rudolf Steiner's study of Goethe's world view is the conclusion of his many years of research into Goethe, but it is also the foundation of anthroposophical spiritual science.
