Space and movement are intrinsically related. In architecture and town planning spaces are designed to direct movement and enable rest. In the course of architectural history, cultural spaces have been designed to give rise to specific inner experiences. How does architecture guide our inner and outer movement? How can spaces move us and how does our own movement through space play into that? How can architecture and the design of public spaces enable a social life that enhances the coherence of inner and outer experience?
We will explore these questions of movement and encounter during this interdisciplinary workshop. In smaller working groups, participants will have the opportunity to consciously experience moving through space, forming spaces through movement and designing spaces that move us, aided by quick sketches and scale models.
To raise awareness for a more nuanced perception, daily eurythmy exercises will guide us into a more integrative experience of movement, gesture and social interaction and their subtle interrelatedness.
This seminar is aimed at architects, students and all those interested in the theme of movement and space. No special knowledge or prior experience in eurythmy is required.
