Dorothea Templeton was born in Lübeck, Germany in 1952. After finishing school, she studied eurythmy in Dornach. From 1980 on she turned increasingly to painting. This gave rise to her interest in atmospheres and she transformed their after-images into subjects for her paintings. From 1993 on she exhibited widely and internationally. In 1995 she moved to Dornach and began teaching (painting and drawing) at a Rudolf Steiner school, gave courses at conferences and coached painters privately. She was commissioned to paint the altarpiece for the Church of the Christian Community in Lübeck. Numerous paintings were used as book titles and posters. Fotos of her paintings in magazines and the many exhibitions contributed to her growing fame. She lives and works in Dornach, Switzerland. She is married to Ronald Templeton and has three grown children.
«When people ask me, what it is that inspires me
to create my paintings, the first thing that comes to my mind
is contemporary classical music. Especially
Sophia Gubaidulina's compositions, their sometimes
harsh crassness and transcendental magic, inspire me
to transform this listening experience into a painting.»
